Sunday Salons at the Tett: PeaceQuest Book Club
April 26, 2015 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pmFree
What’s a salon?
In 17th century France, artistic academies organized salons as exhibitions and gatherings for public analysis of art. The concept has since grown to include literature and other media. For this reason, PeaceQuest chose the format of the salon to create a place to learn together about issues of peace and war through art!
Join us for part two of our spring salon series at the Tett with the a Book Club discussion of Testament of Youth!
Queen’s English professor Patricia Rae will be discussing Vera Brittain’swonderful memoir Testament of Youth. It is the first volume of Brittain’s three-partautobiography. Brittain was a feminist and prominent peace activist after WWI, aconflict in which she lost several young men close to her, and in which she served asa nurse. Testament covers her girlhood in England, her romance with a young soldier, her work as a nurse, her losses and ensuing sorrow, and above all how she emergedfrom her sorrow by turning towards work for peace.
Testament of Youth was made into a feature film by BBC Films, released last year inthe UK, and to be released in North America this year.
Dr. Rae will be providing us with discussion questions in advance. Check back in early April.
For those of you who wish to buy a copy of Testament of Youth, you may order onefrom Novel Idea. The price is $16.99. Please put your order in by March 1st.
